Rode Hard, Put Up Wet by Lorelei James

Two couples one novel.  In this novel we get to see Macie and Carter as well as Cash and Jemma building relationships and love – even when they say on the outset that isn’t what they’re looking for. We also get to see the growing, rebuilding father daughter relationship of Macie and Cash.

Two hot headed men on one ranch especially when one is the father of Macie and the other is screwing her is a recipe for trouble.  I love that we get to see the over-protective side of both of them toward the other because it just shows how much they care.  The hard headed macho men get their heads handed to them a few times as the story unfolds when the women in their lives remind them that they are quite capable of taking care of themselves – without interference, even when the occasional interference reminds them they are wanted and cared about.

I love how Lorelei James makes characters and settings in such a way that the reader at home cares about the people and comes to cheer on or want to head slap the characters.  Yes, characters have issues – but all good characters do because real people do.   The fact that Carter is a cowboy turned artist is interesting because it is unexpected – though he definitely needs to learn the meaning of consent. He is right in that nudes can be very artistic. They can show the subject’s soul and life at that moment in time not just their body.

The fact that this story has strong, beautiful, intelligent, capable women as well as the dominant men in their lives is wonderful because you know the joy of submission and release most when you are in control of your outside world.  We get to see the return of our favorite characters of the McKay family in this series and I look forward to seeing this continue.

I’d definitely recommend this series.  I’m sure reading these books in print would be wonderful but the Audible reader’s sultry voice really helps play up this story.  Take a chance and pick up one of these novels – they have romance, hot men, wonderfully written characters and setting, all elements in a story to keep you on the edge of your seat.
