I LOVE musicals! Not all musicals but I grew up watching the movies in the middle of the night on AMC and TCM – the OLD musicals – many from before even my parents were born. Real stories, amazing characters, a world that draws you in – much like a good book, and if I was really lucky – Music. I Love music! I love the theatre! From movies like Gidget to ones starring Shirley Temple or Elvis the world of old movies drew me in.
Where am I going with this? This musical just recently released reminds me of those – good characters, good actors, a world that draws you in and oh the music… Hugh Jackman stars as P.T. Barnum in a musical celebrating the beginnings of show business and being who you are. Every character he draws in, desiring the more outlandish, the more likely to be made fun of on the street – the more I wanted to root for them all! The music though… the music is what makes this movie. I have been a fan of Michelle Williams since her Dawson’s Creek days but she really brings this supporting role to life.
If you haven’t seen the movie – it is out for digital download now. Willing to wait a week? Get it on dvd/blu-ray.
